>The Wall Street Journal has acknowledged the existence and the legitimacy of bioidentical hormones.

>

>Those of us who have known for years that bioidentical hormones are a viable and safe option for the treatment of symptoms of hormone imbalance and menopause can now breathe a sigh of relief.

>

>The time has finally come for the establishment to admit bioidentical hormones exist and are an option women are choosing, in spite of conventional synthetic hormone therapies.

>

>No longer can your doctor tell you there is no such thing as bioidentical hormones or that all hormones are the same. You have spoken and your voices have been heard.

>

>Why have bioidentical hormones finally made it to prime time?

>

>Because they are cutting into the market share of Wyeth, the biggest seller of conventional prescription hormones.

>>

>Not that Wyeth didnt know about bioidenticals before. > Its just that no one in the big pharmaceutical industry cared. Big pharma thought that compounded bioidentical hormones were too small, too mom and pop to bother with.

>>

>This is no longer the case.

>

>The Wall Street Journal (

October 25, 2005

) reports that Wyeth has urged the Federal Drug Administration to investigate the sale and marketing ofbio-identical hormones by compounding pharmacies. A group of these pharmacies has now filed a lawsuit seeking to block the FDA getting involved. That lawsuit will be heard next year.

>

>So why is Wyeth suddenly so worried?

>

>The word is out that bioidentical hormones work better than synthetic hormones. More and more women are using them and they clearly are happy with the results. Unfortunately Wyeth does not care about us getting better. They only care about us buying more medications.

>

>Compounding pharmacies, the subject of the suit have been compounding or mixing medications for the past 100+ years. They did their compounding long before there was a Wyeth or for that matter any other big pharmaceutical company.

>

>It was only when big pharma came on the scene and was able to go to the FDA and spend millions of dollars to get patents to help them make billions on their unique drugs, that compounding became obsolete. They could never compete.

>

>Now, it seems compounding pharmacies have come back to haunt those who disenfranchised them.

>

>It turns out that bioidentical hormones have become the pharmaceutical

Waterloo

. Bioidentical hormones have been around for more than 15 years. They are identical in molecular structure to human estradiol, progesterone and testosterone. They are individually FDA approved and they are pharmaceutically manufactured from soy and yam oils.

>

>The compounded preparations do not have unique drug patents or big pharma monies behind them.

>

>They are more of an individually tailored product which is often hard to duplicate and constantly changes depending on which compounding pharmacy makes it regardless of what the doctor prescribes. I did an informal survey of 25 compounding pharmacies over a period of 3 months in 2002. I wrote the same prescription for bioidentical hormones and 25 different products were delivered to my door.

>

>I do not endorse compounding pharmacies.

>

>I work with only one because big pharmaceutical companies do not care enough about my patients to invest in helping me bring to all of you the combinations of bioidentical hormones I have been using successfully for the past 10 years.

>

>The reason I do not endorse compounding pharmacies is simple. They cannot effectively standardize the hormones, they cannot consistently produce the same product. Only big pharma can do that.

>

>I have an idea for Wyeth.

>

>Listen to the women. Bring the proper compounded bioidentical hormones to the market and let women feel better. Synthetic hormones, birth control pills, antidepressants wont. Bioidenticals in standardized form will.

>

>Spend the money on training doctors about bioidentical hormones. Spend the money on developing and conducting the studies you say are not there to prove bioidenticals are safer than synthetics.

>Just do it!
