My Recent Conversation With Suzanne Somers

Thursday, May 20th, I had the pleasure of spending almost two hours speaking with Suzanne Somers. Suzanne has used her celebrity and fame to become the poster child for healthy, happy and certainly sexy menopausal women. She is leading the crusade for women who are refusing to accept synthetic hormone replacement therapy and antidepressants as treatments for symptoms of hormone depletion and imbalance.

Suzanne told me she had to think long and hard before deciding to become the voice and face of the dreaded menopause. Our society and medical community have put such a miserable and negative spin on this time in a womans life, I am not surprised Suzanne had second thoughts. In my practice in New York City I see movie stars and politicians, women who are leaders who would never admit to taking bioidentical hormones or being menopausal for fear of being labeled as old.

Thankfully, Suzanne felt a moral obligation to open the door to the truth and thus empower women to seek help not to get sicker and older, but rather to feel great forever.

Personally, I told her I did not believe she should be the poster child for only menopausal women, but rather for women of all ages. The sooner women and their physicians understand how hormones balance affect us all the time, what bioidentical hormones are and how to best use them, how to keep young and healthy and remove the connection between aging and chronic illness and infirmity, the sooner the female (and male) population of the US will become healthier, more vibrant and be able to enjoy and give to life well into our twilight years.

Through her commitment to helping women take control of their own destiny, Suzanne Somers has opened the door to a better, healthier future for all of us. And she hasnt done it one moment too soon. All you have to do is look around you and see all the women taking synthetic hormones, antidepressants, drugs to keep their bones from falling apart and see women suffering, getting sicker and sicker with their doctors standing by with no support or encouragement for a better way to live. The system is broken and all we hear is complaints. There arent enough of us committed to making it better.

To have women like Suzanne Somers lobbying for the work I do every day in my efforts to help women is a blessing. Her reach is so wide and her message so real, it helps me and every physician committed to listening and caring for womens needs. With her to champion real preventive health life becomes a lot easier for doctors like me. As Suzanne Somers beats the drums louder and louder, more physicians will need to learn about bioidentical hormones and how to keep their patients healthy.
Soon, the importance of hormone balance at all stages of life and protecting our patients from synthetic HRT, birth control pills, dangerous drugs, over the counter quackery and ruthless marketing will become a real mission for many more physicians.

While the details of my interview will become part of Suzannes next book to be published next year, my commitment to womens health and hormone balance continues every day.
