Hormone Therapy Information for Women
Source: American Family Physician
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is asking manufacturers of hormone therapy products for postmenopausal women to include in their product labeling recent data from the Women's Health Initiative Memory Study (WHIMS). The study found an increased risk of developing probable dementia in postmenopausal women 65 years of age or older during four years of treatment with oral conjugated estrogens plus medroxyprogesterone acetate compared with placebo. It is unknown whether this finding applies to younger postmenopausal women taking estrogen alone.
